Concerns with Care Homes
As of July 2020, ONS figures show almost 30,000 more care home residents in England and Wales died during the coronavirus outbreak than during the same period in 2019*.
In addition, Care home residents are on course to make up more than half the deaths caused directly or indirectly by the Coronaviris crisis in England**.
Again according to the ONS: "Proportion of care homes with at least one case of coronavirus (staff or resident) is between 54.8% and 54.4%*.
As a note here, the extraordinary lengths care home workers and the NHS in general go to to keep these figures from being considerably higher is astounding and we have a huge amount of respect for the work done. Especially putting themselves in harms way on a daily basis.
It is also important to note that those elderly or disabled people currently stranded in these high risk environments shielding will feel the mental effects of isolation. No video contact or fleeting drive-by visits can resolve this so understandably, it's not an easy choice to either opt to put a loved one in a home, or take them out without a proper personal care plan in place.

Greatly increased care at home
With the above facts, it's not surprising more and more families are trying to keep their elderly loved ones at home. The unfortunate situation there is many well-meaning members aren't able to dedicate the time to help properly or have the correct skills to ensure a high level of comfort at such a difficult time.
How we help with non-symptomatic clients
We will do everything we can to help both physically and emotionally. Looking at more of the processes in place, here are 8 points taken from one of our many risk assessments in place to ensure the safety of both our clients and our staff:
-
Caregivers will follow all company guidelines on PPE.
-
Caregivers will ensure that they have enough stock of all PPE and report to Klass Care Office if more is required.
-
Caregivers will on arrival at a clients property thoroughly wash hands and sanitise with hand gel provided.
-
Caregivers will wear gloves, face mask and apron when in close proximity.
-
Caregivers will attempt where possible to maintain a safe social distance between themselves and the client.
-
Caregivers will ensure that all waste including all PPE, continence waste and all household waste will be double bagged before putting into household bins outside of property.
-
Caregivers will follow all GOV regulations on self isolation and follow the NHS Directive on this. Caregivers will also inform Klass Care Management as soon as possible and inform of all symptoms.
-
Klass Care will follow all GOV, CQC and NHS regulations in supporting all staff, clients and their families.
There are many more however, we share the above so you can see the level of care taken on every visit. These means that the environment your loved ones are in, is a secure, safe and familiar one.
The above is general advice however here at Klass Care, we specialise in working with customers and their families who require care in their own homes. We offer a unique service of personalised care visits which means that we will go above and beyond to make sure that the care you require is the care you receive.
